Course Sequences

 

Full-time students at the Career and Technical High adhere to the same graduation requirements as any student in the state of New Jersey, as furnished by the Department of Education. These requirements can be found on the NJ Department of Education website at: http://www.nj.gov/education/ser/grad

In addition to meeting the graduation requirements of academics, students follow a designated sequence of courses in their career and technical or academy program. While there may individual exceptions due to transfers or unique cases, these need to be approved by the building principal. In order to meet the graduation requirements of academic courses and course requirements of the career and technical or academy program, a general sequence of courses is scheduled by the high school. The general sequence of courses is given as follows:

9th grade

Career and Technical Education course (10 credits)
English 9 or Honors English 9
Algebra I or Honors Algebra I
Environmental Science or Honors Biology
Physical Education/Health 9
World History or Honors World History
Spanish I or Computer Applications

10th grade

Career and Technical Education course (10 credits)
English 10 or Honors English 10
Geometry or Honors Geometry
Biology or College Biology
Physical Education /Health 10
US History I or Honors US History I
Spanish I or Computer Applications

*Open elective

11th grade

Career and Technical Education course (10 credits)
English 11 or Honors English 11
Algebra II or Honors Algebra II or Honors Pre-Calculus
Chemistry or College Chemistry
Physical Education /Health 11
US History II or Honors US History II
Spanish II

Year long shop class
English 12 or Honors English 12

* = These electives can only be scheduled, based on course availability, if the student is on track for graduation and has fulfilled all career and technical and academy requirements for that school year.
