Automotive Technology

The Automotive Technology program familiarizes students with safe work practices in an automotive shop environment, while introducing them to the tools and methods of the trade.  There are extensive hands-on and theory situations featured throughout all aspects of the program.  Students can expect to study and gain experience in areas such as: brake maintenance, transmissions, emission control, electrical systems, heating and cooling systems, and trans-axles and  differentials.  The automotive shop facility at the Career and Technical High School is equipped with the modern equipment and tools that one would expect to find in a professional mechanic shop.  In effect, the classroom is designed to mimic genuine shop settings in an effort to prepare students for the expectations not only of their desired trade, but also the demands of today’s workforce.

Program Outcome

Successful students who graduate from the Automotive Technology program may embark upon a number of different careers in the automotive field.  Employment positions may include, but are not limited to: automotive technician, automotive service technician, front-end specialist, service manager, service writer, shop supervisor, and specialized auto repair person.  Graduates of the program can continue their education and receive more training at technical colleges, seeking an associate degree in automotive technology.  Many alumni operate independent repair shops or work in auto supply stores.
