Air Force Junior ROTC (Military Science)

Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) is offered as both a full-time and share-time career and technical Military Science program. Students have the opportunity to explore the fast-paced world of aerospace and military science. Students will learn about the history of flight, the development of airpower, as well as the missions and operations of the armed forces of the United States. They will examine the science of flight, from weather and aviation physiology, to the theory of flight and aircraft navigation. They will study the solar system and space technology, and be exposed to career opportunities in the aerospace industry. Students will learn the fundamentals of good communications, effective management, and human relations and receive leadership training that will prepare them for life after high school. The State of New Jersey has approved physical education credit for AFJROTC participation.

Program Outcome

It is important to know that there is absolutely no military obligation for participating in AFJROTC. The purpose of the Air Force Junior ROTC program is to encourage students to stay in school and continue their education not to recruit students for the military. Air Force Junior ROTC is a citizenship program. Students enrolled in the Air Force Junior ROTC program are taught values and skills that will benefit them in whatever future endeavors they undertake.
For those students who are interested in a military career, participation in AFJROTC offers some real advantages. Students who enlist in any of the armed forces may do so one or two pay grades higher than other enlistees. Students who plan to go to college and join senior-level ROTC can get credit for up to one full year of college ROTC for their Junior ROTC experience.
Students may also qualify for special scholarships reserved for cadets who participated in AFJROTC in high school.

Whatever a student’s career aspiration, the Air Force Junior ROTC experience will provide them with the education and skills they’ll need to meet the challenges of the future.
