Automotive Technology This program consists of eight courses of study. The initial four courses are General Engine Repair, Front End Repair, Heating and Cooling Repair, and General Transmission Repair. They are primarily designed to be basic in nature and familiarize students with safe work practice, tool introduction, and what would be expected in a working environment. There are extensive hands-on and theory situations in each module. It is assumed that after reasonable competency in the above disciplines, the student can move on to Brake Repair, Emission Control Repair, Electrical Repair, and Transaxles and Differentials Repair. These courses are more specialized areas and therefore are more difficult. The proper attitudes towards safety and tool usage should have already been established; therefore the class can proceed to this next level. There are many hands on activities and considerable theory work in these specialized areas. This program follows the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification standards. Upon completion of this program students have the opportunity to become ASE certified. Program Outcome The successful student who graduates from this program can enter a number
of automotive careers. The demand for highly skilled and trained workers
in this field continues to increase. Students may obtain positions as
automotive technicians, automotive serve technicians, front end specialists,
service managers, service writers, shop supervisors, and specialized
auto repair persons. Graduates of the program can continue their education
and receive more training at technical colleges, seeking associates degrees
in automotive technology. Many alumni operate independent repair shops,
or run auto supply stores.
