Information Technology - Computer Hardware and Software

The Information Technology - Computer and Hardware Systems Technology program provides students with the skills necessary to maintain personal computers in a networked environment. Students learn how to design and install voice, data communications, and video systems in a wire or wireless network. Students prepare for A+ certification exam to succeed in the PC Repair and Network industry. Introduction to Wireless Technology is included to keep students up-to-date with current changes in the industry.

The student will develop skills in meters, hardware, and central office equipment as well as concentrate on the importance of technical job planning. Students will be able to terminate, troubleshoot and install network copper wiring and cabling systems. Smart House technology; PDA networking, advanced security features, and streaming video links/feeds will be discussed in the Emerging Technology course. Students will be involved in a number of projects that focus on integrating these technologies into pre-existing networks.

Program Outcome

Microsoft Certified System Engineers are highly sought after in the Information Technology industry. Many career choices are available to the successful graduate of this program. Those career choices include: network technician, server operator, software operator, LAN specialist, remote access administrator, cable network technician, corporate help desk, application and product specialist, among others.

Local companies employ a number of SCVTS graduates as systems managers and computer technicians. Many graduates go on to further education opportunities at colleges and technical schools. Students who successfully complete the program may be eligible for an apprenticeship in one of the aforementioned Computer and Communications Systems Technology fields.
