Electrical Technology

The primary purpose of this program is to educate the student about electrical technology by presenting a comprehensive selection of courses. At this level, the student will be taught basic electrical theory, wiring methods and materials, national and local electrical codes, and print layout. The student will have the necessary experience to install receptacles, switches, lighting, and service entrance conductors. While working with the various circuits for both residential and industrial facilities, the student will learn to work safely around electricity and to use the proper tools for residential and industrial wiring. As the student progresses through the program, he/she will learn about motors, programmable logic controls, generators, and meters.

Program Outcome

Upon successful completion of the Electrical Technology Program, the student will be able to obtain an entry-level job in residential wiring. The student will also be prepared to continue his/her education in Electrical Technology programs. Students who complete this program may elect to continue their education and studies in electrical technology and other related fields at the collegiate level. The students who complete the electrical technology program may be eligible for 3 credits at Cumberland County College. Those students, who maintain a "B" or higher average, can receive college credits at Salem Community College when entering the Electrical Technology Program there. Students may also chose to enter into a private apprenticeship or an Electrical Union apprentice program.
