Law Enforcement
and Public Safety
Students enrolled in the Law Enforcement Program will be exposed
to courses dealing with the history of the criminal justice system
in America, the crime and nature of law, as well as legal and behavioral
aspects of crimes. Students will encounter New Jersey Code of Criminal
Justice (Title 2C), New Jersey Motor Vehicle Law (Title 39), as
well as various criminal statistics and the extent of crimes. The
program will also investigate drugs and alcohol abuse, the criminal
justice process, U.S. Constitution and Constitutional issues, as
well as search and seizure involving police and the Constitution.
Students will take part in police report writing, identify the
various careers in the Bar of Justice, and describe the structure
of American and New Jersey courts, as well as the different components
of the court and trial processes. Students also study the components
of investigating motor vehicle crashes, patrolling and investigation,
and techniques and responsibilities of telephone and radio communications.
Program Outcome
Career opportunities continue to expand in this field especially
with increased interest in security and anti-terrorism measures,
as well as designing and monitoring security systems. Graduates
of the Law Enforcement and Public Safety program should continue
their education at a two or four year college or university to
pursue a career as a police officer, private security system technician,
corrections officer, detective, probation officer, sheriff, private
investigator, crime scene investigator, court officer, or personnel
dispatcher for all police and fire calls. The students who complete
the Law Enforcement and Public Safety Program may be eligible for
6 credits at Cumberland Community College, Salem Community College,
or Gloucester County College. Students may also be eligible for
3 credits at Delaware Technical and Community College.
